About the project

Project Overview

Van Racking Solutions  was commissioned to install a VW Crafter racking solution for a high-voltage power engineering team. The goal was to create a strong, efficient, and professional mobile workspace. It needed to support technicians working across varied field environments. With this in mind, the racking was carefully designed to maximise space, improve workflow, and meet the demands of high-performance engineering.

Customer Requirements

The client required a racking layout that would:

  • Maximise available storage without compromising space
  • Provide safe, organised areas for tools and equipment
  • Integrate with existing workflows
  • Allow fast, secure access to all components

VW Crafter Racking System Design

Offside Racking

The offside setup features a complete racking system with high-capacity shelving. Rows of removable blue bins make storing and sorting small parts simple. These bins are ideal for keeping cable accessories, fuses, and connectors organised. They also allow easy transport to and from the worksite.

This section of the racking system ensures that components used frequently in high-voltage tasks remain accessible and tidy. It helps reduce setup times and keeps the workflow smooth.

Nearside Racking

On the nearside, the racking includes a full bank of drawers. There are no open shelves on this side. The drawers come in varied sizes to hold tools, test equipment, and spare parts securely. This design keeps the workspace neat and efficient.

A rotating vice is fixed to the integrated nearside workbench. This feature adds extra flexibility for on-site repairs and precise adjustments.

Bulkhead Area

The bulkhead section includes a vertical racking unit with labelled drawer compartments. These drawers allow engineers to sort and access parts quickly.

Next to the racking, an electrical inverter system is mounted securely. It powers tools and charges equipment on-site. The installation is safe, clean, and professionally wired. This power-ready section complements the racking system, enabling engineers to work without relying on external power sources.

Rear Layout and Access

A central aisle runs from the rear to the cab, offering clear movement inside the van. This layout supports smooth access during urgent or high-pressure jobs. Both the rear and side doors open directly to tools and storage areas. That means quicker access and improved job efficiency.

Key Features

  • Removable Parts Bins (Offside) – Keep small parts visible, sorted, and portable
  • Mixed Drawer Units (Nearside) – Secure storage for sensitive instruments and tools
  • Bulkhead Shelving and Power System – Efficiently utilises vertical space and supports on-site power needs
  • Rotating Vice and Workbench – Enables on-site repairs and adjustments.
  • Central Walkthrough Space – Maintains ease of movement, even in tight working environments

Designed to Perform

This VW Crafter racking solution meets the demands of high-voltage engineering work. It was custom-built to improve safety, save time, and support job efficiency. Every drawer, bin, and tool mount serves a purpose.

The layout lets engineers access what they need, right when they need it. The rotating vice and power system offer true on-site flexibility. Whether it’s testing, fixing, or replacing parts, this setup handles it all.

Built by experts, the van fit-out turns a standard Crafter into a high-performance mobile workshop.
