About the project
Ford Transit racking civil engineering
Ford Transit for civil engineering customer who wanted what they described as a workhorse vehicle, capable of storing heavy tools whilst also being strong enough to withstand the tough life that civil engineering often entails. Some of the tools and equipment stored are just not suitable for traditional shelving, so they needed a solution.
Products we used for the racking installation
This vehicle was already fitted with a suitable floor to support the racking we were installing, so we saved the customer money.
Driver’s side racking products
Open storage with high level plinths means that floor level storage is possible, as the plinth ensures that equipment stored in this space cannot slide across the van floor when on the move. The most appropriate storage for this build was open shelving units with a 180mm back plate and 72mm front retainer plate, as nothing will slide off the shelf. Flexible open shelving is supplied with anti-slip mats and removal aluminium dividers meaning, it is easy to create individual partitioned areas to suit the items being stored. We solved the problem of storing fixings with some transparent drawer units within the racking on this side, easy to now see what stock you have and helps with stock control. The top of the racking gets a full length top tray, with its hinged end flap, it makes storage of long items effortless.
Storage problem for small hand tools was solved with the addition of three plastic loop strips, fixed to the end of the racking unit.
Passengers side racking products
As the van operators often need to access tools and equipment quickly but don’t really need access from the side door, we blocked off and reversed a section of racking. The major benefit of this simple solution is for fast access you do not need to get in the van to access tools. Additional open shelving features on the passenger side, providing simple and cost effective storage.
To overcome the storage problem of items like shovels, pick axes, brushes and levels, we constructed a shovel box and located the unit on the end of the racking by the rear door. As per the driver’s side, the racking is completed with another top storage tray for long items.
