Ford Transit shelving storage for a Dorset based commercial electrical solutions company. This long established specialist business provides highly technical voltage support systems and came to VRS for a racking system to help them organise their van more efficiently.

Products we used for the racking installation

A steel racking system needs a good quality floor to provide the structural support for the racking. We installed a marine grade birch ply floor which is 12mm deep, the floor has a resin finish, meaning it is anti slip and easy to keep clean, its marble grey finish lifts the overall appearance of the van. Ply lining protects the van sides but, it’s not the most attractive to look at, and once it gets dirty there is nothing you can do to clean it. Nowadays the preferred option is a polypropylene lining kit, which is lighter than ply and can be wiped clean, so that is exactly what we fitted.

Drivers side racking products

If you work long hours with your van and have a lot of tools and equipment to accommodate, then it makes sense to have a flexible racking storage solution, it helps make your working day much easier and saves time looking for what you need.  Open storage at floor level with a retaining plinth and a strap system is perfect as bulky equipment can be accessed quickly, without the fear of it sliding around the van when on the move.
For storing parts and components the best solution is lift off the shelf storage crates and bins. The driver’s side features ten high capacity euro crates and a whopping twenty eight mini skip style lin bins, which solves the storage problem perfectly. To solve the common issue of where to store longer items or pipework, we finished this side off with a full length top tray. Top trays have a hinged end flap so, loading long items is easy.

Passengers side racking products

With the passenger side having less space due to the sliding door, it’s important to make the best use of the space available. The floor level gets open storage with a plinth retainer, and an open shelf underneath the workbench, works well for the equipment you need while working at the bench. Open shelves are supplied with removable mats and dividers, so it is a flexible storage space. Three steel drawers feature directly below the working area, so it’s the perfect combo in our opinion!  Next to the sliding door, we added a tall lockable locker, which includes two adjustable shelves. Expensive equipment and or PPE equipment can be locked away safely when you are away from the van.
