About The Project

Racking system for Stepney Commercials

We have worked with Stepney Commercials previously so were excited when approached to start the design process for a new edition to their fleet. The owner more or less knew exactly what he wanted, a comprehensive racking build, Migi combined compressor generator, electrical design and install with the brief to maximise the internal storage as much as possible.

Products used

Drivers side starts at the bulkhead end with floor level open storage space and a case secure system which enables a variety of items to be secured in place quickly. Next up are three steel drawers of varying depths to accommodate tools and equipment. Above the drawers is a covered storage section, covered storage features throughout the van and successfully creates an exceedingly tidy working environment. Middle area of the drivers side has covered storage options top and bottom, cleverly sandwiched in between is a stack of six service cases. Service cases are available in a variety of sizes and this stack has a mix of deep and shallow units, each one supplied with coloured coded mini bins. Rear of the racking on the drivers side benefits from more covered storage with lift up fronts which conceal shelving units with handy removable dividers and anti slip mats.

Passengers side continues the theme of covered storage at floor level helping to keep everything neat and tidy. The middle area of this section features eleven steel drawers of mixed sizes all containing removable mats and dividers. Above the drawers are two mini lockers for PPE or valuable tools with another four drawer stack in between the lockable lockers. Stepney Commercials prefer to block of the passenger’s side door as this opens up opportunities to use the space for externally accessible racking. Eight steel drawers fit nicely in this space enabling fast access to tools without having to get into the van.

Electrical Installation

A trailer testing board is essential kit for commercial roadside assist and we were happy to install the Hope Scrutineer that the customer sourced. We added a comprehensive auto electrics pack for the van to include Kisae Sinewave 1000w inverter, supporting batteries, low power protection and a bespoke wiring loom routed carefully through the van. We added in extra internal LED light strips to brighten up the workspace plus work lights facing outwards to help with those after dark call outs. External LED amber light system and rear chevrons is incorporated to aid safety for van operators and other road users.

Migi combined compressor generator

Stepney Commercials have previously installed our space and weight saving Migi combined compressor generators so choosing the Migi 502UK model for this build was an easy decision. The 502UK with its reliable Honda GX390 petrol engine is a workhorse and is therefore the preferred option for many roadside recovery businesses. To save even more space the external air tank was located underneath the van known as an under slung tank. View the full Migi range and various upgrade options.
