About the project

Van racking for construction

Van racking for construction. We were approached by this local construction company who we have worked with for many years. The vehicle in their fleet  was not new but needed a revamp. The VRS design team got to work on a fairly simple design that solved a customer’s problem – where to store construction tools that are just not suitable to be stored in racking shelving.

Products we used for the racking installation

We started by installing a full Polypropylene lining kit, these lightweight and easy wipe clean kits provide protection for the van’s internal panels and create a pleasing working environment for the user. For a van that has had a previous life a new lining kit is a cost effective way to smarten the appearance of the van instantly.

Drivers side racking products

Construction vans carry a lot of kit, often the simplest way to store tools and fittings is on straightforward open shelving. VRS open shelving units have removable dividers, it’s simple to create different sized storage areas depending on space requirements. Add in anti slip mats and you have a flexible storage facility. Open shelving features at the bulkhead and towards the rear of the van. For the middle section, we designed two lockable lockers which are perfect for PPE and or expensive tools that need to be stored securely. Underneath the two lockers is an area for fuel storage in two 20 ltr steel jerry cans, secured safely with a strap. The end of the racking has some rail and ratchet straps, which makes great use of the space.

Passengers side racking products

In many industries, it’s handy to be able to access frequently used tools without having to get inside the van. Side access drawers tick the box for convenience so this build has four tool storage drawers, each drawer is 108mm high. A high plinth in front of the wheel arch transforms this area into a usable space. For the storage of long handled construction tools, we created a shovel box at the end of the racking unit, this solves the customer’s problem of storing this type of equipment.

Hand washing facility and electrical products

Outside the van, we fitted two amber light beacons, front and rear both with switchable light patterns. Inside benefits from three LED light strips, the system has full low power protection, switching, cabling and fuses to protect the installation. The bulkhead has a fitted Teal hand wash station providing hot and cold hand washing facilities for the construction team.
