About the project
Van racking for large van
Van racking large Iveco. At Van Racking Solutions we get to see a lot of vans, however the size of this all road, extra long wheelbase 7.2T Iveco Daily blew us away a bit, it is massive! We have racked out several vans for D B Auto Assist in Preston, and we know how they like their vehicles to be racked. We added more useful van racking products to this van and made good use of the extra space available. DB Auto Assist chose this striking van colour for their fleet so they are always visible and we think it works. At VRS we loved this van so much that we took a before we had done anything picture and then another after we fitted the lining kit and floor, see those pics and the finished van in the picture gallery.
Products we used for the racking installation
We started with a 12mm marine grade ply floor, VRS floors provide a good solid base for the racking, they are anti slip and easy to keep clean. A polypropylene lining kit was fitted which is lighter than standard ply and cleanable, lining kits help protect the panels of the van and provide a professional appearance.
Drivers side racking products
Starting from the bulkhead at floor level there are two sections of open storage, both of which benefit from a case secure system, this makes clamping service cases or small toolboxes simple so they don’t slide around when on the move. The build has a Migi Compressor generator on the bulkhead with an external air tank, we located the tank under the racking in this section for easy access if required and it still leaves a usable space.
Moving up this unit the racking has covered shelving and a locker, the latter is the home of the electrics installation described below. The middle racking section has almost floor to ceiling covered shelving with just the top section left open. The third and rear section of the van racking gets seven steel drawers of varying depths, all just under a metre wide. Above the drawer section is a workbench, this also accommodates a row of lin bins for parts and component storage.
Available height space is not wasted with an extendable top tray that stretches the full length of the van. Top trays benefit from a hinged end flap, making the loading of long items easy. Smaller long items are accommodated on the end of the racking unit using a long items holder, complete with a securing strap.
Passengers side racking products
This vehicle is higher off the ground than the standard version, if you don’t need to get in the van for smaller jobs there is a benefit to not getting inside. Side access drawers make this possible which this well planned design has. Three side access drawers that can be used from the passenger’s side door are a big plus point. The passenger side has covered storage at floor level with plenty of open storage shelves. Van Racking Solution shelves are supplied with anti slip mats and dividers the shelf dividers can be repositioned so it is perfectly possible to create individual partitioned storage areas. VRS steel drawers are constructed to take the significant weight, thanks to the steel ball bearing guides.
The middle section of the van has four wide and five narrow drawers in a side-by-side configuration. Service cases feature on the passenger side, four steel cases each in a slide out shelf are positioned just above the side access drawer unit. Four plastic Galaxy cases are located in the middle of the van, our service cases are supplied with colour coded mini trays so small parts can be organised and are easy to find. Towards the rear of the van is a one metre tall lockable locker, supplied with two removable shelves. To complete the design on this side the end of the racking unit has a cable holder and two strips of rail with securing straps to secure bottles.
Bulkhead products
The bulkhead is the natural home for the Migi combined compressor generator but this machine is not new. Van Racking Solutions supplied this model to DB Auto Assist back in 2018 While the original van we installed it into has been decommissioned the Migi is still going strong therefore it made complete sense to refit into this van it is a testament to the quality of the Migi machines we supply to customers. The bulkhead area remains a usable space with a simple workbench over the top of the Migi.
Electrical and lighting products
An excellent racking design for a recovery van, needs a high specification electrical system to help the roadside engineer help customers get back on the road quickly. Discover the highlights of the electrical design, installed by the Van Racking Solutions specialist team below.
