What the Client Needed

Dorset Windows required a van interior that could handle daily installation work while keeping tools organised and protected during transport. For this project, we fitted a Ford Custom racking system designed to give installers a clear, structured storage area without sacrificing valuable load space.

The final layout allows the team to store tools, hardware and job equipment in a logical arrangement while still leaving room for larger materials. As a result, the van now functions as a tidy and practical installation vehicle ready for day-to-day work.

The Dorset Windows team needed Ford Custom racking that would support installers travelling between multiple properties each day. Their vehicle had to carry both specialist tools and general installation equipment while keeping everything easy to find.

During the planning stage, several key objectives shaped the design:

  • Reliable storage for tools and installation equipment

  • Shelving that allows quick identification of stored items

  • Drawer units that keep smaller tools organised

  • An interior layout that maintains a clean and professional appearance

These priorities would help installers prepare for each job quickly while keeping the van organised throughout the working day.

What We Did

Rather than filling the load space with storage units on both sides, we concentrated the racking along one wall of the van. This approach preserves a large open section of the floor while still providing structured storage for tools.

We then combined open shelving with secure drawer units so installers can separate frequently used equipment from smaller tools and fixings. Additional shelving near the bulkhead increases storage capacity without restricting movement inside the vehicle.

This arrangement creates a practical Ford Custom racking setup suited to installation work.

Offside Racking

The main storage system sits along the offside of the van. This racking includes several shelves positioned above a bank of drawers.

The shelving provides a place for larger tools and installation materials, while the drawers below keep hand tools organised and protected. Because the unit sits beside the sliding door, installers can reach the most commonly used equipment immediately after opening the van.

Rear Access

The rear doors open directly onto the racking system, allowing installers to see the entire storage layout straight away. Tools and materials remain clearly visible from the rear entrance, which speeds up preparation before work begins.

With the centre of the van left open, installers can move equipment in and out easily without navigating around additional storage units.

Bulkhead

Extra shelving installed near the bulkhead provides additional space for items that installers need regularly. These shelves make good use of the vertical height inside the van while keeping the floor area available for larger equipment.

This section also helps distribute storage evenly throughout the van, preventing overcrowding near the doors.

The End Result

The completed Ford Custom racking installation gives Dorset Windows a well-organised service vehicle tailored to installation work.

Shelving and drawer storage keep tools arranged and easy to locate, while the open load area allows larger materials to travel safely when required. The result is a van interior that supports efficient working while maintaining a professional appearance.
